WormBase News Archive: 2002
- December 20, 2002: Multiple alignment viewer
The genome browser now acts as a multiple alignment viewer
for ESTs and C. briggsae sequence when you zoom in far
enough. For an example, see here.
- December 18, 2002: Genomic Clone Requests
After January 1, 2003, please send all requests for
C. elegans genomic clones to Audrey Fraser (aef@sanger.ac.uk) with
a cc to Ratna Shownkeen (rs2@sanger.ac.uk); include a
FedEx or DHL account number.
- November 11, 2002: C. elegans Genome Sequence is Complete!
The WS90 release of WormBase made available today has a
complete C. elegans genome sequence. The
100,258,171 base pairs are present in six contiguous
segments corresponding to the six C. elegans
nuclear chromosomes. On behalf of the C. elegans
community we thank the C. elegans Genome
Sequencing Consortium at the Wellcome Trust Sanger
Institute and Washington University's Genome Sequencing
Center for this impressive accomplishment. In spite of
the high quality of the sequence, there are undoubtedly
remaining errors in the genome sequence, and thus the
Sequencing Consortium will remain active in responding to
and resolving any potential errors that arise. Please
inform WormBase of any errors.
- October 7, 2002: Nobel Prize for Wormers
Sydney Brenner, Robert Horvitz and John Sulston win Nobel
prize for C. elegans research.
- September 24, 2002: Genome browser improvements
The genome browser now puts
the track labels in the main image rather than in a key at
the bottom.
- September 23, 2002: RNAi search improvements
The RNAi search now
allows you to combine phenotypes with either AND or OR
criteria.
- September 22, 2002: Synteny browser online
A very preliminary synteny
browser lets you compare the annotations on C. elegans
and C. briggsae.
- August 28, 2002: C. briggsae gene predictions available
The genome
browser now shows preliminary gene predictions for
C. briggsae. These raw predictions are currently being
curated into an authoritative set and should not be
relied upon
- August 20, 2002: WormBase logo competition winner
Congratulations to Thomas Boulin, who won the WormBase
Logo Competition. His logo and banner will be
appearing on the WormBase site with the next user
interface release. See the development
server for a preview.
- August 10, 2002: The C. briggsae sequence now available
The C. briggsaesequence is now available on
WormBase and for download from The
Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute, and The
Genome Sequencing Center, Washington University at
St. Louis. For further information, please see the release
notes.
- July 9, 2002: New Gene Ontology Browser
The new Gene Ontology browser makes it easy to identify
every gene that has been associated with a particular
function. See RNA
polymerase II transcription factor for a useful
example.
- July 4, 2002: CDS views on the Genome browser
The genome browser now has a CDS viewer that makes it
easier to see the effect of alternative splices on the
resulting protein. We have also added forward and reverse
3-frame translation tracks.
- July 1, 2002: The WormAtlas Project announces version 1 of its Slidable Worm.
- June 29, 2002: The global operon analysis now online
The global operon analysis from Blumenthal et al,
Nature 417: 851-854, is now on line. For example, see Operon:CEOP1004.
- June 29, 2002: We have begun to curate microarray expression analyses
.
For example, see Aff_B00001.4.
- June 29, 2002: Worm Transcriptome unavailable
The genome browser depictions of Worm Transcriptome
Project transcript extents will be unavailable for an
indefinite period of time. Address inquiries to Paul Sternberg and Jean & Danielle
Thierry-Mieg.
- June 20, 2002: Abstracts for the West Coast C. elegans meeting are due July 1
- June 11, 2002: WormBase Now curating functional annotations
We are starting to annotate gene functions in the
C. elegans genome. If you're interested, please take a
look at your favorite gene. Want it annotated RIGHT NOW?
Want it annotated BETTER? (Or do you actually like the
annotation that's there?) Let us know.
- June 9, 2002: Genome Browser now shows similarity
The genome browser now shows similarity hits on
non-C. elegans nematode sequences. Here
is an example.
- June 6, 2002: WormBase announcement mailing list now availale
Sign up for the wormbase-announce
mailing list to receive e-mail announcements whenever a
new release of WormBase appears.
- May 5, 2002: Generation of inline images, visualization of your annotations
WormBase can now generate inline genome images for use in
your web pages. You can even superimpose your own
annotations on top of the image. See the gbrowse_img page for
details.
- May 3, 2002: WormBase Logo Contest
Enter the fabulous WormBase Logo Contest
and win a chance to see your artwork become the official
