WormBase has been updated to the WS189 release of the database. This release includes a new Ontology Search and numerous enhancements to the Genome Browser.

modENCODE position at OICR in Toronto

The Stein Lab at the
Ontario Institute for Cancer Research is recruiting a software engineer and a data curator in support of the modENCODE Data Coordinating Center. The ideal candidate for the developer position will be Bachelors or Masters-level biologist
or computer scientist with significant experience in biological databases and production-quality
software development. The data curator should have a Masters degree or Ph.D. in a the
life sciences, experience with high volume functional genomics data, common bioinformatics
tools, and some programming. A background in C. elegans or D. melanogaster biology or genetics would be a plus. These positions are based in Toronto, Canada. Please contact

C. japonica assembly now available

The preliminary assembly of C. japonica is now available from the Genome Sequencing Center (WUSTL) website. BLAST searching of the assembly is also available.

The website for the 2008 Topics Meeting in Aging, Stress, Pathogenesis, and Heterochrony is now available. The meeting will be held August 3-6 at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. The deadline to receive abstracts is Monday June 2, and the registration deadline is June 23rd.

The website for the 2008 Topics Meeting in Worm Genomics and Systems Biology is now available. The meeting will be held July 24-25, 2008 at the Broad Institute in Cambridge, MA. The abstract and registration deadlines are April 1st and April 23rd, respectively.

New release schedule

Effective immediately, WormBase will be moving to a monthly release schedule. New releases of the database occur on the final Friday of the month, will be available on the development site a week later, and on www.wormbase.org two weeks thereafter. A preliminary document showing dates of upcoming WormBase releases is available on the WormBase Wiki.

New interface for the Textpresso literature search

Textpresso -- the software that powers the WormBase Literature Search -- has a new user interface. Available directly from the WormBase home page (select the "Literature" option), Textpresso searches individual sentences in the full text of 9461 papers and 24,526 abstracts.
