mir-124 promoter::gfp transgenic animals show GFP expression in a subset of neurons, detectable from mid-embryogenesis (~350 min post-fertilization), when neuronal differentiation begins, throughout development and in adults.
mir-124 promoter::gfp expression were detected in ~40 of the 302 neurons in C. elegans. Using direct observation and crosses to strains containing specific neuronal markers, some of these were identified as sensory neurons, most of which are ciliated [AWC, AWA, AWB, ASH, ASI, ASK, PVQ (not ciliated), ASE, PHA, PHB, PVD (not ciliated), IL1, ADE, PDE].
