"qPCR was performed for the immune genes including
daf-16,
tol-1,
ilys-3 and other pathway involved genes namely,
daf-12,
pmk-1 and
ins-7. Apparently, C. elegans specific genes were significantly up regulated against the live PAO1 bacterial infection rather than the isolated LPS moiety infections (Figs. 13, 14)... The C. elegans invertebrate lysozyme gene ilys- 3 mRNA level was investigated during live bacterial and LPS moiety infection. The
ilys-3 mRNA expression increased gradually from 12, 24 and finally to 48 h infections by 1, 1.9 and eightfold expressions, respectively (Fig. 14a) showing that
ilys-3 gene is involved in the resistance to P. aeruginosa PAO1 infection. In contrast,
ilys-3 mRNA expression decreased gradually from 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, and to 2 mg/ml concentrations by 2.5, 1.9, 0.8 and 0.4 fold, respectively (Fig. 14b)."
