In wild-type zygotes, PAR-3, PAR-6, and PKC-3 become localized to the anterior cell cortex and PAR-1 and PAR-2 become localized to the posterior cortex. Reduction of PAR-5 levels appears to affect PAR-6 and PKC-3 coordinately with PAR-3. The distribution of each of these anterior group proteins extends well into the posterior of the embryo, and overlaps the distribution of both PAR-1 and PAR-2. Ninety-five percent of 22
par-5(
it55) one-cell embryos stained with PAR-6 show an expansion of protein distribution into the posterior of the embryo. Similar results were seen in RNAi embryos (n=6 for each PAR antibody).
