Animals are resistant to the toxicity of an anti-infective xenobiotic such as R24. Such small molecules protect the host from bacterial infection by inducing antibacterial immune responses via the
p38 MAPK pathway. These molecules tend to have toxic effects in addition to immunostimulatory activity.
