PatternConsistent with previous reports in zygotes (Griffin et al., 2011; Guo and Kemphues, 1995), PAR-1::GFP was enriched on the posterior cortex, in a weak gradient in the posterior cytoplasm, on centrosomes and weakly on P granules. Asymmetric segregation was repeated in each P blastomere, with PAR-1::GFP enriched on the cortex destined for the next P cell daughter. Enrichment of PAR-1 in the germ lineage persisted through gastrulation. Cortical PAR-1 could be detected in most, and perhaps all, embryonic cells, but was present at higher levels in the primordial germ cells Z2 and Z3, daughters of the P4 blastomere.
