mpk-2 encodes a mitogen activated protein (MAP) kinase; by homology, MPK-2 is predicted to function as a serine/threonine kinase that acts downstream of a receptor tyrosine kinase in a cell signaling pathway; however, as loss of mpk-2 activity via large-scale RNAi screens does not produce any obvious abnormalities, the precise role of MPK-2 in C. elegans development and/or behavior is not yet known.
Predicted to enable protein serine/threonine kinase activity. Predicted to be involved in intracellular signal transduction. Predicted to be located in cytoplasm and nucleus. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in prostate cancer. Is an ortholog of human MAPK7 (mitogen-activated protein kinase 7).
Map position created from combination of previous interpolated map position (based on known location of sequence) and allele information. Therefore this is not a genetic map position based on recombination frequencies or genetic experiments. This was done on advice of the CGC.
