Patternspe-46 is localized to the spermatogenic tissue. In gonads from hermaphrodite L4 larvae, GFP is present in a very specific population of cells, likely those that will produce the sperm. In the male gonad, GFP labeling begins at approximately mid to late pachytene stage, and it is present through the appearance of the sperm. Both primary and secondary spermatocytes contain GFP, as do the sperm.
