PatternThe irk-1 promoter drove GFP expression in multiple neurons, including the hermaphrodite specific neuron (HSN), sensory phasmid neurons in the tail, and unidentified neurons in both the head and tail of male worms. Intestinal and gonadal cells were labeled as well. As would be predicted for all of the IRK proteins based upon homology with the mammalian Kir channels, clear plasma-membrane targeting of the GFP-tagged IRK-1 protein can be observed in the intestine. It is interesting that irk gene expression was notably absent in muscle and hypodermal cells.
