PatternExpression was detected in the nerve ring and in some projecting sensory neurons at the tip of the head. In larvae and adults, SRGP-1 is abundantly expressed in hypodermal tissues. SRGP-1::GFP (green fluorescent protein) localizes to the cortex of all cells in early embryos, and is particularly abundant around highly condensed (that is, late) apoptotic cell corpses. A similar enrichment around corpses has been observed for a number of genes involved in corpse removal, suggesting that SRGP-1 might function in engulfing cells. In L4 hermaphrodite larvae, patches of SRGP-1::GFP are additionally found in vulval epithelial cells (arrowheads) as well as in the spermatheca (not shown).
