uaf-2 encodes an essential U2AF35 homolog clustered in an operon with cyp-13 (RRM/cyclophilin); UAF-2's sequence is somewhat atypical for U2AF proteins (it lacks an identifiable N-terminal RNA-binding RS domain, while having an glycine-rich C-terminal region).
Enables pre-mRNA 3'-splice site binding activity. Predicted to be involved in mRNA splicing, via spliceosome. Predicted to be part of U2AF complex and spliceosomal complex. Is an ortholog of human U2AF1 (U2 small nuclear RNA auxiliary factor 1) and U2AF1L4 (U2 small nuclear RNA auxiliary factor 1 like 4).
