e25 : `benthead' progressive dystrophy of head musculature so that adult head is bent dorsally or ventrally hence very poor forward movement good reverse movement. Egl. ES3 (adult) ME1. NA8 (e324 : resembles e25; e611 (pka vab-4 : incompletely penetrant allele) etc.).

[C.elegansII] e25 : "benthead" phenotype, progressive dystrophy of head musculature so that adult head is bent dorsally or ventrally, hence very poor forward movement, good reverse movement; defects in muscle attachment (Mua); Egl. Phenotype partly suppressed by growth in liquid. ES3 (adult) ME1. OA>10: e324 (resembles e25), e611 (pka vab-4, impenetrant allele), e988, e2154 etc. [Waterston et al. 1980; CB; DR; NJ]
unc-23 encodes a protein with similarity to the BAG2 (BCL2 AnthaGene) protein that functions to negatively regulate proteosomal degradation by the E3 ubiquitin ligase and Hsp70 co-chaperone CHIP (Carboxyl-terminus of Hsp70 Interacting Protein); in C. elegans, unc-23 is required for proper attachment of the anterior body wall musculature to the overlying hypodermis.
Enables ATPase activator activity and heat shock protein binding activity. Acts upstream of with a positive effect on muscle attachment. Located in M band; nucleolus; and striated muscle dense body. Expressed in several structures, including anal depressor muscle; excretory canal; pharynx; touch receptor neurons; and vulva. Is an ortholog of human BAG2 (BAG cochaperone 2).
